Stock index future is the world’s best financial derivative in volume and liquidity. As one of the most effective risk management tools in securities market and a hedging tool in fund management for securities companies or funds institution, stock index future has become a significant part in international capital market system. As a great financial innovation, its occurrence will produce revolutionary effects on the futures market and stock market. The birth of stock index future arouses wide concern from all circles in China. With constant development in stock market in China, especially after the adjustment from 2007 to 2008, the concept of stock index future has become a familiar word in China. From strangeness to acquaintance, from doubt to acceptance, the concept has experienced a long process and a profound discussion. On the basis of the research for more than 10 years, stock index future was successfully listing in China in April 2010. This made a great difference in the future market in China, as well as the development in the capital market in China. This paper will focus on the problems from the development of stock index future in China and corresponding suggestions, by the analysis of the concept of future, development of future market and situation of stock index future at home and abroad.
