Dear all,
This is a reminder on a non-smoking policy :
Amazon recognises that all employees have a right to work in a smoke free environment.
Smoking is not allowed in any part of Amazon's workplaces at any time,without exception.Where available,you may smoke in the designated areas outside provided for this purpose.You should not smoke in the car parks (apart from the designated areas) or anywhere near to Amazon’s buildings that are in public view.
The harmful effects of smoking (including passive smoking) to both smokers and non-smokers are well known.In particular smoking can:
• increase the risk of serious illness and/or diseases,such as lung cancer;
• make smokers more susceptible to illnesses resulting in increased absences from work;
• be particularly harmful for pregnant women,people with respiratory or circulatory problems and people suffering from asthma and heart conditions;
• increase the risk of fires in the work place;
• cause irritation and discomfort for people,such as those who wear contact lenses or have eye complaints; and
• increase insurance costs for the employer.
This policy therefore aims to provide all workers and visitors to Amazon's premises with a healthy,safe and comfortable environment by prohibiting smoking in the workplace.
For this reason,it is a strict requirement that employees and workers should not smoke in the work environment including:
• toilets;
• corridors;
• staircases;
• doorways;
• lifts;
• meeting rooms;
• rest areas;
• vending areas;
• canteens;
• the car park (other than in your privately owned car if it is used primarily for private purposes); and
• anywhere next to Amazon’s buildings that are in public view.
Please note that smoking is also not permitted during fire evacuations,whether real or a test.
If you see an employee smoking in an Amazon workplace,you should draw their attention to the “No Smoking” signs and remind them that they are committing an offence and ask them politely to stop.If they refuse you should inform the Health and Safety team and/or the Human Resources department.
If you notice that a “No Smoking” sign has been removed,defaced or damaged from any of Amazon’s premises please report this to Facilities or the Health and Safety department immediately.
