The ship first appeared as a small point on the horizon.We had grown impatient 1 at the delay and cheered when we saw it.For most of us this was an important 2 event,because the small object that had come into view was a warship.Husbands,fathers,brothers and friends 3 were coming home after a(n) absence 4 of four years.We were announced 5 that the ship would arrive in about 10 minutes.We cheered more loudly 6 than ever.
The harbour had rarely seen 7 such a colourful scene.It was decked out（装饰）with flags and we were all wearing gay 8 summer clothes.The time we waited seemed endless 9 ; but little by little the point took the form 10 of a ship and,soon,it came so near that we could make out 11 its name :Candia,on the ship .
　Now the crowd could hardly be held back 12 .People were jumping up and down,waving; and little boys climbed onto still 13 vehicles to get a better view.As the ship came into the harbour,everybody stared 14 eagerly at the troops lined along the railings(栏杆).Soldiers on board 15 waved to us wildly,shouting out the names of people they recognized 16 or wanted to see.The two young men in the crowd 17 with a “Welcome Home!” banner almost fell over in their excitement 18 to lift it higher.Women were crying; others laughing 19 ; and some did not quite know whether to laugh or cry.Now the troops were directly 20 above us .Our excitement had reached a peak,for soon they would come on shore.

现在人类无法阻止这群人了,人们激动的上下跳着,有的还跳起了波浪舞（球场上经常出现的那种,you know),小男孩们爬到汽车上以看的更清楚（13空填still?）.这条船已经进入了港湾,每个人到急切的看着船上沿着栏杆一线排开的军人.船上的军人向我们使劲的挥手,大声叫喊着他们认识的人或想见的人.由于太激动,人群中的两个年轻人举着'欢迎回家'横幅已经举不起来,几乎掉到了地上.女人们在哭,其他的在笑,有些 人高兴地不知道自已要哭还要笑.现在军人们就在我们的眼前,我们的兴奋已经达到顶点,马上他们就要来到岸上.
