It was a holiday weekend.The police officers were sitting in a hot room receiving instructions from their captain.One of these officers was Ed Williams.He and ten other officers were on special duty because they knew that over the weekend two weeks earlier over 400 people had died from accidents caused by divers.Over 4000 people had received serious injuries,all caused by drunken drivers.The officers would try their best to prevent such accidents before they happened．
Joe Forest was enjoying himself at a family party.It was getting late and Joe told his sister that he was leaving.Joe’s sister asked him to stay and wait a few hours before he drove.“Don’t worry.I’m going to be fine.I’m going to drive slowly.I only had a few drinks.” Joe said.
Officers Williams was at his post watching the passing cars.A green car was coming,weaving from left to right ,Officers Williams stopped the car and told Joe to get out.He asked Joe to walk along the white line.Joe couldn’t do it.Joe also failed the breath test.Officers Williams told Joe that he must appear in court the next week and he mustn’t drive his car home.Joe called his sister to come and drive him home.
That was Joe’s first offense.He appeared in court and received a 400 fine.He was not allowed to drive for sixty days.Other drivers were lucky,for Joe hadn’t killed them.
But what about the future,was Joe going to stop drinking and driving?
