自从2001年加入WTO以来，中国就一直致力发展工业和经济。经过这十年来的发展，中国在世界的大舞台终于占有一席之位，但是，与此同时，中国也付出了相当大的代价。在我们拥有更多的财富，生活质量有所提高的同时，我们不得不面对一些现实的问题，我们更加不能对那些隐藏着的危机视而不见。尤其是环境问题。经济发展和环境保护之间的矛盾日渐明显。
不管是从经济，政治，还是我们个人发展的角度看，工业发展都是必须的。但是，我们更要关注的是我们的环境问题。过往的中国，是只要把GDP提上去就可以了，可是，到了今时今日如果还这样想的话，那就真是愚蠢之极了。众所周知，我们现在生活着的环境，我们正在使用的资源都是大自然上亿年积累下来的，当我们一天天地去浪费，破坏这一切，那是会造成不可挽救的后果的。我们应该为国家未来的几十年甚至是几百年的发展而努力，而不是只关心下一年的GDP增长了多少。尤其是现在工业正稳步发展的时候，我们需要的是可持续发展。
