曾经有人问过我,做志工有什么好处吗?
鼓励学生当志工的好处是,它启动了我们善良的本能.
在学校参与过服务队,接触过弱势团体的人,
出社会后比较会继续做,因为了解才会有关怀.
但是如果在学校不曾接触,出了社会以后,
会被社会上人吃人的竞争所冲击,柔软的心就会变硬,
就不大会去做了.
我们应该趁孩子天真、有热情、不世故时,
让他们接触不同的人,
体验不同的生活,感受不同的挫折
没有接触,就不会有感动.
就像有个志工学生说：「在学校的时候,
爱滋病离我很遥远,很少会去想到它,
但是当一个妈妈抱着垂死的爱滋婴儿
进来我们医疗团队求救时,我第一次感到爱滋的恐怖.
一个刚出生还不会爬的孩子,就已经没有明天!」
这种体验是深刻的,目睹生命的流失,
对生命教育的意义,不是课本可以教的.
所以,每个学生都说当过志工以后,自己不一样了,
不但成熟了,也学会感恩.
世界上有这么多奇奇怪怪的病,马路上有这样多横冲直撞
的车子,而我们却能平安的活到现在,难道不该感恩吗?
很多人一提到志工,就想到扫地、净滩.
其实最理想的志工应该是发挥自己的专长去帮助别人.
因为那才会双赢,对别人与自己都有利.
一个成功的志工团,涵盖了生命教育、品德教育、
两性教育,因为只有接触,才会产生尊敬与宽容.

Why volunteer? Very simple, because I wanted to help others, being a volunteer not only that you can help others, but the biggest beneficiary is yourself. When you choose to do anything as a volunteer, it must be from your heart and not for anyone in particular and you are happy to do it without pressure. If you feel unhappy as a volunteer or because of being pressured to join the team. Then you better return to your own life. You don’t need to suffer from it because no one will stop you. But when you think you have the ability to serve the people, you should only feel happy. Everyone can choose whether they want to or not and please be responsible for your decision.
Someone once asked me, what good is it about being a volunteer?
The benefits to encourage students to be volunteers is, it can evoke our kind nature.
Those who had been participated in the school’s service team and contacted with disadvantaged groups of people,
Will continue to do after stepped into the society, because the more you understand the more you will care.
However, if never in contact with social work in school, after leaving school, will be hard hit by this dog eat dog world, your soft heart will become hardened, then you would be unlikely to do it.
We should seize the opportunity when children are young and innocent, passionate, and not sophisticated.
