This is a boring day. Mathilde who is a pretty girl but very poor. She married a minor clerk. Although, she dreams of beautiful house and become a rich woman, she don’t have enough money to make her dream come true. However, a dance party changes her life, and led her doesn’t make daydream. Mathilde always stay at home and dream of something which is fine clothes, silent chambers, fine furniture, Oriental tapestries, and so on. Except for make daydreams, she always grieved incessantly. Since, she lives shabbiness apartment, dinginess walls, ugliness draperies, and born on poor family. Her husband wants to let his wife happy, so he has awful time getting a card. To his surprises, when he gave his wife this card, Mathilde not only unhappy, but also very murmuring. She thinks she doesn’t have any beautiful dress to wear. Therefore, she says she can’t go to that affair. When her husband ask her how much cost to buy a new outfit, she answers it at least need 400 francs. Her husband decides to give her 400 francs to buy a new outfit. At the same time, he has to gives up to buy a rifle. Except for new outfit, she also wants to have a jewel. However she doesn’t have any money to buy a jewel. Her husband tells her a good idea that she can ask her rich friend Mme. Forestier to borrow a jewel. So she visited Mme. Forestier, and borrowed a necklace. On the dance party, she got extremely successful which all the men turned to look at her, asked who she was. Of course, she was very happy that evening. When she and her husband had come to home, Mathilde found her borrow her friend’s necklace disappeared. She was very worried and didn’t know what should she do? Her husband retraced those steps on foot and went to the police station to find. However, he didn’t find anything. She wrote a letter to tell her friend, the necklace was broken by her. She will repaired it. Then, they went to each jewel store to look for the same necklace. Finally, they found a same necklace. However, it was too expensive for them, so they had to borrow from their family. Finally, they bought the necklace and then returned necklace to Mme. Forestier. After that, Mathilde has to do heavy housework to decrease their debts. She doesn’t make daydreams. After 10 years, all was paid back. She became heavy, rough. One day, she walked on street. Suddenly, she saw a woman, it looked like Mme. Forestier. She spoke to Mme. Forestier. Mme. Forestier was very surprised, since Mathilde changed too much. Mathilde told Mme. Forestier what happened on 10 years ago and why she changed very much. Mme. Forestier felt very surprised, because the lost necklace just only a paste. It’s very cheap. In conclusion, a poor woman due to a dance party, it changes her life. After that, She never complain with anything and make a daydream.
