I am a native of the city of Charlotte and was raised by a single mother and my grandparents. I saw firsthand how good schools and a good education can transform lives. With hard work and the support of my family, I graduated from West Charlotte High School and went on to become student body president at Davidson College. After graduating from Davidson, I went on to earn a law degree from New York University. After working in D.C. at the U.S. Department of Justice, my passion for service and the love for my hometown brought my family back to Charlotte where I served two terms as an at-large representative of the City Council before being elected to my first term as Mayor and taking office in December 2009.
I am incredibly proud of my heritage, my city, and my state. My story is one of millions that demonstrate the progress we've made as a nation and the promise of the future. The 2012 Convention will be a chance to tell the unique story of Charlotte, North Carolina and the southern region. To make this convention happen thousands of us will need to join together to support this historic event. We want this Convention to be powered by you. To do that, I need your help. Charlotte was picked for its unique story and for the people that live here which is why I am working very hard to give the 35,000 people coming to North Carolina the best convention ever.
I need your help. If you sign up on our website before October 31st, you will be entered to win airfare and accommodations for the week of the Convention. Will you join our grassroots effort by signing up today?
We are collecting names, emails, donations, and building unprecedented grassroots support for this convention. We want you to be a part of this. Your involvement starts now.
