My Bedroom and I
I tried my very best to make my bedroom neat during this summer vacation.It occupied me two days to clear all rubbish.It drove me crazy – especially those useless,tiny things owned by my dear sister.
My bedroom is quite small,thanks to the shortage of land in Hong Kong.As my little brother owns the other room,I need to share the limited area with my elder sister who has now stuck herself in the university.
Nothing reflects my personality as adequately and as ironically as my bedroom.It is white,boring and rubbishy.Or more to the point,the little space is bleached by years and jam-packed with different kinds of books.
The room has much useless clutter:lots of photos,ornaments dull in colour and dusty gifts given by equally obscure people ages ago,litter of my impulse drawing here and there,refusing to go into the dustbin due to my laziness or for some kind of my special reason and games from my childhood which I refuse to throw away for unknown purposes.
Every corner is fully filled with all these odds and ends:in my wardrobe you will find a picture storybook named “Tales of Wizards & Witches” (suggested reading age:7+).Next to the window,there are crystal hangings which were bought out of impulse.PIKACHU,the toy of McDonald Happy Meal seems like sunbathing on four Chinese classic novels,“Notre-Dame de Paris”,“The Little Prince”,“The Catcher in the Rye” and “Sophire’s World”.In my chest of socks you will find a broken electronic dictionary,two more English books named “The Tales of Two Cities”,“David Copperfield” and some translated-in-Chinese novels like “Ivanhoe” ― a historical novel of Ivanhoe,a knight of Richard the First.What a mix!
Beside one of my bookshelves,you will find an ancient Gameboy,game cassettes,and all the paraphernalia that goes with it while Gameboy Advance and Wonderswan,two more handy game players are mixed in the clutter as well.You will also find a black shawl I wore for my F5 graduation dinner two years ago together with some cosmetics that goes with it on top of “Classics of the Three Empires” (三国演义) and another Chinese dictionary.
Besides my bed,my desk is the only place in my bedroom which fits an ideal image of a teenage girl’s bedroom:as neat as a pin and tidy.A list of tool books march like troops on the clean and clear desk surface.However,in my desk drawer you will find a series of bookmarks I bought in Ocean Park in Secondary one which I haven’t the heart to throw away and yet have been of no use to me.And again,a set of key holders and stationery and three tiny teddy bears that I hardly remember where these bears came from sit idle with the bookmarks.The drawer on the other side is full of books as I have already used up all the space of my fifth human-tall bookshelf.
In addition to the disgusting mixture in my so-called bedroom,the ornaments of my sister make the condition even worse.A set of glass-made alcohol lamps which lays on her desk is now covered with dust and no one wants to clean it.A Mooming lamp,a present she got when she was 19 is standing still with some fungi-like black and green dots next to her puzzled empty bed.Her little twin stars key holders,a gift from her ex-boy friend is right under my pillow …….How can I sleep with such a mess for years?Her washed socks and handkerchiefs are in my CD Box.Many useless and coarsely made handicrafts which are souvenirs from her friends are hidden behind my books and wardrobe.When I tried to tidy up her clothes,her A-level physics notes,letters and friends’ gifts fell down without any warnings.With no time at all,a huge paper box of plastic flowers showered on my whole body.The story not yet ends as I notice the problem of my sister’s accumulated junk gets more and more serious.
This is part of my bedroom.
