破折号在这里 在解释说明的同时有强调的作用,通过解释强调被大白鲨杀死的人很少,还没有被蜜蜂蜇死的人多.
fewer than...是个补充的成分,修饰“seven people” 有点像后置定语
该写的话：This century only seven people (WHO ARE) fewer than have been killed by bee stings have been killed by the great white shark,the man-eater of the movies .
原句看起来结构更好,也更清晰 容易理解.
