My uncle lives in New York.He likes fishing .Every summer he goes fishing in the Adirondack Mountains.
One day this summer he took me to one of the beautiful lakes here.The sun was shining in the blue sky over the lake.My uncle caught some big fish .but I could not catch any .He said "When I was a child Icaught a lot of fish here but now there are not many fish.In some of the lakes there are no fish at all"
Then one day I read an article acid rain in a magazine.I learned many things .Gases from factories and cars go up into the sky.and the wind carries them far away .Later they come down with the rain in other places .That is acid rain.
Fish eggs and young fish are killed by even a little acid in the water .Today there are no fish in about 200 lakes in the Adirondack Mountains.
Acid rain is becoming a big problern all over the world today.Canana and some counteies in northern Europe have the same problems.In Canada,for example,alot of trees are dying becuse of acid rain.
At the end of the article the writer says "When I stand here and look at these lakes after then years ,what will I see and hear?Will fish jump again Will birds sing their happy songs Or will it be a silent spring?"
What should we do to stop acid rain?Is it too late now No ,I do not think so .All of us should work together to stop acid rain.
