“数学文化”一词,大约是20年前出现的,最近三四年才用得多起来.所以,对许多人来说,“数学文化”一词还是陌生的.而这个词的使用频率近年大大增加,说明它是有生命力的,说明许多人为着某种需要更愿意从文化这一角度来关注数学,更愿意强调数学的文化价值.事实上,数学是人类社会进步的产物,也是推动社会发展的动力之一.数学与人类文明,与人类文化有着密切的关系.
数学素养不是与生俱来的,是在学习和实践中培养的.
数学不仅是一种重要的“工具” ,也是一种思维模式,即“数学方式的理性思维”；数学不仅是一门科学,也是一种文化,即“数学文化”；数学不仅是一些知识,也是一种素质,即“数学素质”.在提高一个人的推理能力、抽象能力、分析能力和创造 能力方面,数学训练的作用,是其他训练难以替代的.

In fact, Mathmatics is the outcome of society's development and also a motivation for society's advancement. In a word, Mathmatics is closely connected to men's culture.
People donot born with Mathmatical attainment, which is, in stead, accomplished in learning and practising. Mathmatics is not only an important tool, but also a thinking mode, i.e. mature thinking in a mathmatical way. Mathmatic is not only a subject, but also a catagory of culture. It is also not just about knowledge but also about quality. In aspects of improving ability of reasoning, abstracting, analysizing and creating, Mathmatical training has its magic power than any other training.
