英语中的比较结构的疑惑
（1）He is happier with Mary than withJane
（2）The apples in the basket are sweeter than on the desk
（3）The apples in the basket are sweeter than those on the desk
请问,为什么（1）中than后＋介词短语,正确.而（2）就不正确,需要变为（3）才正确?如何判断何时须在介词短语前再加个主语?
换句话说，（1）是省略了主语，那么，为何（2）不可省略主语呢？

省略：The apples in the basket are sweeter than those on the desk.(这里是蓝子里的苹果与桌子上的苹果进行比较）
He looks more like his mother than he looks like his father.
省略：
He looks more like his mother than (he looks) like his father.他看起来象妈妈要比象爸爸多一些.
要是这样,那就是
He looks more like his mother than his father.
他看起来比爸爸更象妈妈.
意义不同了.
