Running Abraham
In 1919,German student Abraham was matriculated by the Cambridge University, but he didn’t live happily there,as he was a Jew.He was despised by other students, and even his teacher looked down upon him.But for learning more things,he continued studying at the university.
After the First World War,the government found English young men’s physique was very bad.So the university offered P.E.lessons to the students, and running was one of the most important parts of it.With a surprise,Abraham found himself feel free form worry when running. When he felt unhappy,he went running. And he was one of the best runners in the university.
Even thought he ran ever fast,he didn’t get rid of others’ disdain. Then he began to perplexed, unknowing if it was right to get respect from others by running. So at the last weekend of February in 1920,he decided not to run any more after the last time. However,on that day,he met Liddell.
Liddell was a common young Englishman, and he liked running, too.Abraham told Liddell that he had decided to give up running, but Liddell said when your strong point isn’t accepted by others, that’s because you haven’t done well enough. In other words, when you are just a bit better than others, they with despise you with envying sight; but when you are better than others a lot, they will only admire you.
Hearing this,Abraham strengthened his resolve and go on running. He and Liddell ran on the school playground everyday,no matter what happened.
In the year 1924,the Olympic Games were hold in Paris. They were both chosen to take part in it,because of there excellent marks in their country.
The results were exciting.Abraham won the first prize of men 100-merer race, and Liddell won the first prize of men 400-meter race. After the competitions, reporters interviewed the two legendary runners. Then Abraham said:“If you don’t show respect to me,please show respect to my steps.”
