The city is no longer the place it used to be 写出句子的成分,什么定语状语补语的,它前面的先行词是the place,但为什么不用where修饰,区别在哪里?.*_*

有一点,感觉说得不对.【关系副词不能在定从中作表语】
另外,题句本身有为出题而造句之嫌疑,故参与讨论一下：
我认为,既然副词可以作表语如He is there.关系副词为何不能?
如：Put the book back on the shelf where it was.请这这本书放回原处.
本题用that而不用where的根本原因在于表语本就是名词词组而不是介词短语.
不过,一般说XX不再在是原来的（曾经的）那个XX,我们说：XX is no longer what it used to be.
XX is no longer what it was ten years ago.
我们说,what引导的是名词性从句(表语从句）,相当于【 the+一个适当的名词+that】-定语从句.
这个适当的句词,一般很不好找,如这里用place 就不是很好.其实这里的名词,应该是“样子”之类的名词而非“地方”这样的名词吧?
The city is no longer what it used to be.是最好的英语表达.意为：这城市不再是原来的那个城市了.
而用The city is no longer the palce that it used to be.则主从句中的表语都是the place
即：the city used to be the place.It is not that place any more.之复合.
这是题句本身有点问题,有人工考题句之嫌疑.
其次,我认为关系副词是可以在定语从句中作表语的.
比如某物不在原处.可以说：sth.is not in the place where it was.这里的关系副词where在定语从句中就是作表语的.
