请教一个英语中关于主语和谓语省略的问题。

这句中when引导的从句中只有一个asked，少了he was，为什么连was也一起省了？

这是英语的一个语法现象。当从句的主语和主句的主语是同一人的时候，且从句是条件、让步、时间状语从句的时候，把连词、主语、be省去。
如：Though tired, he still kept one working.
While working in Japan, he picked up some Japanese.
再问： 为什么省略了主语和系动词后谓语要用ing形式？
例如： you do not remember much about a film after watching it for the first time.
再答： 实际上这里的ing和ed形式，还是原句的东西啊！如：
Though tired, he still kept on working. =Though he was tired, he still kept on working。
While working in .....=While he was working in.....懂了吗？
