In 1943 two frenchmen,Jacques Yves Cousteau and Emile Gagnan,made a breakthrough in under water life-support technology.They came up with something called the Aqua-Lung,a tank of air attached to a facemask.This device allowed divers to carry an air supply on their own backs.Finally,technology could provide divers with the freedom they needed to move about and explore.
