On the morning of Novemeber 4,1966,that was a terrible day for art lovers,it was raining very hard in Italy.For many days,terrible rains had fallen on Italy which cities are filled with the world's greatest works of art.The arno River,filling quickly,threatened to flood.Just before dawn,the Arno River that flows through Florence overflowed its banks,sending water into the countryside.The citizens of Florence which had been sleeping,awakened to find their city under water.Florence who is a famous art centre was under 14 feet(4 meters ) of water and mud in some places.Thousands of artworks many of whom were priceless masterpieces wwere also under water.Suddenly Florence was a city who was graveyard of the world's finest art.
The Florentines that survived by climbing to their rooftops faced a terrible disaster.The city that they loved was flooded.The greatest artworks in the world many which had survived for hundreds of years were buried in water and mud.But Florence is a city in whom there are many art lovers.
On the morning after the flood,art students formed a human chain and pulled the artworks out of the water.Within 24 hours,people which restored paintings began arriving in the city.It was a time that many people came together for a common cause-- to save the artwork.This disaster from who the Florentines never expected to recover caught the interests of people around the world.Donations came from everywhere.Experts worked tirelessly and much was saved.To be sure,many books and manuscripts who were very valuable were lost to the flood,but many were rescued.Perhaps most important,the flood of 1966 taught lessons will not be forgotten.Experts developed new methods whom protect artwork form natural disasters.People which worked on the art also developed new technoques will help keep art safe for future generations.
