A TRADE ship underwater for more than 800 years is a great mystery (神秘) story.Now scientists are trying to work out what happened.Why did it sink?But it's not easy to find out.
People discovered the ancient ship,now called the Nanhai-I,near Yangjiang city,Guangdong in 1987.But it was not until 2001 that China's underwater archaeologists (考古学家) were able to find the exact site.The Nanhai-I was 40 kilometers south of Yangjiang city,25 meters under water.It was covered in silt.In 2002,archeologists collected more than 4,000 cultural relics (文物).Most of them were valuable porcelains (瓷器) made in the best kilns (窑) of the Song Dynasty.
