I might be describing what you and your boys are already aware.The
following is a brief description of the interlock bypass philosophy,
developed early in the FEED stage for the SIS design.
We have 2 'Classes' of bypass switches:
1.POS (Process Override Switches)
2.MOS (Maintenance Override Switches)
POS are for startup purposes.Examples include low flow startup bypass for
pump/compressor suction flow,low pressure startup bypass for pilot/FG
pressure,low turbine exhaust pressure,etc etc.POS are activated from
DCS,and signal is sent to SIS.When the process condition has been
established (ie interlocking condition no longer active),the POS will be
AUTOMATICALLY de-activated.
MOS are for instrumentation maintenance purposes.For 2oo3 trip initiating
instruments,there's no MOS.For single trip intiating instrument,there
will be a MOS.MOS are also activated from DCS,and signal is sent to SIS.
However,in order to activate them,a "Hardwired MOS switch",designed on
the Auxiliary console,needs to be put in the 'Enabled' position first.
The "Hardwired MOS switch" will govern and control a group of DCS MOS
switches.Each process unit will have its own "Hardwired MOS switch".
