随着我国改革开放的不断深入,既掌握专业知识又精通英语的复合型人才越来越受到青睐.近几年来,随着大学英语教学改革的开展和深入,我国大学生英语水平不断提高,英语教学也取得了巨大的成绩,但与社会的发展和需要相比仍存在诸多问题,而问题的核心仍然是如何切实提高大学生英语语言运用的综合能力,以适应社会的需要.长期以来我国大学英语教学指导思想过分强调语言基础知识的学习,忽视了对学生英语综合运用能力尤其是听说能力的培养和引导.然而英语语言实际应用能力的培养不同于其它科目的学习,它不仅需要有足够的通过课堂学习而获得的语言输入,还需要有足够的机会在适当的情景语境下进行语言输出的练习与实践,继而达到巩固词汇、语法等基础知识和提高语言实际应用能力的目的.大力开展英语第二课堂活动,是一个切实可行且行之有效的方法,它为学生提供了良好的语言学习真实环境与条件.
英语第二课堂建设对外语学习具有重要意义:一方面学生能够把课上所学用于实践,提高语言实际运用能力,另一方面实践中的问题反过来指导和激励课上学习,学与用互相加强、互为动力.作为大学英语课堂教学的有益补充,英语第二课堂的充分开展不仅能够提高学生学习英语的兴趣、积极性和主动性,推动切实提高学生英语实际应用能力教学目标的实现,推动大学英语教学,而且有利于丰富校园与文化生活,活跃英语学习的校园氛围,更有利于加强高校的学风建设.
