一词多义的产生,传统的语言学理论更好的将它归于历史和社会的因素,这些固然是词义变化的重要因素,但它们只是外部因素,终究没有看清词义变化与一词多义的关系,也未能解释一词多义形成的缘由,至今,一词多义的普遍存在,导致人们的在阅读文章时不能很好的理解和阅读文章,故可能正确的传达原文的意义,以争取原文和译文最大程度的等值.英语单词在不同的场合和搭配中,词义有时差别很大.如果把某些英语单词或词组按词典上的意义直译过来,就会使译文晦涩生硬,不易理解,甚至还可能引起误解.因此在翻译时,要在弄清原文意思的基础上按照汉语习惯选择适当词义加以引申,以求更确切地表达原文意思.进行英译汉时,词义的选择应注意从以下几个方面入手
