怎样就知道它后面要不要加介词？
The snowstorm added （ ）our difficulties.这里也不应该加介词？为什么？

add 作为及物动词.后面可直接加名词.而作为不及物动词 add就要加介词才能加名词.
及物时：He add the salt to the hot soup!
不及物时：The baby'birth add to the happiness of the family!

再答： 我觉得没区别。。老师问过吗？ 牛津高阶英汉双解字典里都是 add sth (to sth)“添加，加添” add A and B (together)总数再加上 add sth (to sth)“补充说、继续说” add sth (to)“添加（特色）”都是这个结构。。 而add to 是一个固定词组:使（数量）增加，使（规模）扩大 里面就有个你举的类似的句子：the bad weather only added to our difficulties 额。。我以前没注意这个问题。。回答的也不太明确。。不好意思啊。。 补充下哈。。。与add to 有相同意思的第一个用法：add sth (to sth)“添加，加添”的主语是人，，你的句子主语是物。。用add to 不合理、。。
