4.2 Procedure of design high contact ratio of face gear drive
In order to design a face gear drive with high contact ratio and good dynamic performance,parabolic rack-cutters are applied to generate both profile crowning for helical pinion and face gear surfaces that determine the path of contact in longitudinal direction.Longitudinal crowning for the helical pinion is considered simultaneously to reduce the sensitivity of the face gear drive to misalignments[4].The parabolic profile of rack-cutters are mentioned in Fig.2(b).
The path of contact and transmission errors for design of face gear drive with high contact ratio have to be satisfied with the follows
(1) Under the condition of a given tooth width of face gear,the high contact ratio of gear drive can be accomplished by design of parabolic parameters and of rack-cutters.
(2) The path of contact should be orientated longitudinally in order to avoid the occurrence of edge contact.
(3) The function of transmission errors have to be a symmetrical shape that can be implemented by design of position parameter of parabola apex
(4) Furthermore,the amplitude of loaded transmission errors ought to be minor which determined by the difference tooth number of ( ) and the parabola coefficient of tool plunging for the helical pinion.
The design of high contact ratio of face gear drive is represented by following procedure,
