"We must live in the present.If we dwell on the past,we will lose the present."
To what extent and in what ways do you agree or disagree with this statement?Explain and illustrate your answer from history,literature,observation,experience.
I can only agree partly with statement because of the way I was raised.In Chinese family,tradition and history play an important role in guiding a person's judgement and fee;ings.For example,keeping the family together and working personal dificulity out with the help of the family are ways of living that we value,so the modern habit of simply abandoning the family through divorce when problems get difficult is rejected by us.We consider our present to be the sun of our past,and lopping off the past means lopping off most of our lives.
On the other hand,remember the past in some ways can be hurtful.For example,events such as tragic death,rape,or abuse,can be dwelled on so much that we can't grow in the present.While we should't forget the bad things completely,we should't let them govern us .Also some past teachings may be corrupt and should be locked away.For example,past lessons in prejudice and hatred can hurt us in the present and ruin our future.
The problems we face is how to let the positive parts of the past help us to make the present positive.
