语言是文化的一个重要组成部分,不同的文化反映相似或相异的文化.古德诺夫在《文化人类学与语言学》中指出：“一个社会的语言是该社会文化的一个方面,语言和文化是部分和整体的关系,语言作为文化的组成部分,其特殊性表现在：它是学习文化的主要工具,人在学习和运用语言的过程中获得整个文化.”［1］（P109）每个民族都有自己的文化,这种文化是在特定自然环境、历史条件和社会现实中形成的,具有特殊性.
习语是某一语言在使用过程中形成的独特的固定的表达方式,是民族思想和智慧的结晶.广义的习语包括成语、谚语、歇后语、典故等.英汉两种语言历史悠久,包含着大量的习语,它们言简意赅,形象生动,给人一种美的享受,但由于它们来源于不同的生活环境、宗教信仰、历史及生活习俗等方面,承载着不同民族的文化特质和文化信息,成为翻译中的难点.本文通过对比英汉习语的来源,拟找出英汉文化差异的根源,并据此提出英汉习语翻译的方法.

Goodnough in" cultural anthropology and Linguistics" pointed out:" the language of a society is the social one aspect of culture, language and culture are the relationship between parts and whole, language as a part of culture, its characteristic expression in: it is the main tool of learning culture, people in the study and use of language in the process of obtaining the whole culture." ( 1 ) ( P109 ) each nation has its own culture, this culture is in the specific natural environment, historical conditions and social realities in the form, has the particularity.Idiom is a language in the course of the unique and fixed expression, national thought and wisdom. The generalized idioms including idioms, proverbs, idioms, allusions. The two languages of English and Chinese has a long history, contains a large number of idioms, they are concise and comprehensive, vivid, give a person a kind of beauty to enjoy, but because they derived from the different living environment, religion, history and customs and other aspects of life, carrying a different national cultural characteristics and cultural information, become the difficulties in translation. In this paper, through the contrast between Chinese and English Idioms from cultural differences between English and Chinese, to find out the causes, and puts forward the method of translation of English and Chinese idioms.
