of Hardy which is known to all.It describes the unlucky life of a chaste girl.Tess,the heroine,is a beautiful girl of a peasant family who became pregnant due to the seduction of the young master in the host family.As a result,her right to chase for true love is deprived and she is abandoned by her husband in the nuptial night.Driven to despair,she returns to the embrace of the young master.However,at that time,her husband in the name only comes to look for her from far away with his ill body,which is beyond Tess’s expectation.For the true love in heart,Tess kills the live-in young master resolutely.After short time of getting together,she walks on to the gibbet.
Her father Derber’s ignorance and greediness towards money results in the unlucky destiny of Tess.And the evil and shameless of Yary berries all the dream of the naive girl and impels her to the third thing which changes her live,that is to fall in love with An Clay.And then,it is the cowardly man who is called angel that leads Tess to the abyss.Some people saythat it is An Clay who is to blame.However,he needs time to release himself in that age he lives.After all,we shouldn’t ignore that his love to Tess is true,which is different from Yary,who only has carnal desire and treats Tess as a toy of him.In my opinion,the tragedy of Tess is rooted in that age.Also,there may be such things even in this age.But they who are like Tess will have more chance to survive.Closing the book,I really want to criticise the society in that times,censure the shameless behavior of Yary,look down upon the timidity of An Clay and sympathize
the tragic experience of Tess.
