Beyond Real
There was a point where I was addicted to games such as World of Warcraft,and like any addiction,it is a strong reality that is very difficult to pull away from.I constantly contrived reasons that would allow me to continue playing,and I constantly found evidence that these were real people I was playing with.Sure,they acted and sounded like real people,but it took a while to realize that they would have no conceivable value in my life.When I quit,it was a huge relief.
Bad experiences aside,I think in some ways engaging in an MMORPG is better than being glued to TV serials like PB,24H,Lost.They do offer a large pool of people to interact with:people that simply don't matter.If balanced carefully with real life,MMO's offer a positive outlet for the imagination.
When I read this article I was reminded that some of my most exciting times in WoW were when I had the opportunity to lead 40+ people in some virtual dungeon or battle.If I were to lead or manage a group of 40~people in real life,failure would carry a lot more consequences.
