我曾经写过一篇关于奥运和汶川大地震的演讲稿,
Good evening,ladies and gentlemen:
It is my great honor to be here and deliver this speech to all of you.
I will start my speech with two questions.The first one is what is the most exciting and exhilarating event in China this year?Sure enough,the answer is the 2008 Olympic Games.
However,my second question is just the opposite:what is the most miserable tragedy that happened in China recently?Obviously,the answer is the devastating 512 Wenchuan Earthquake.
So what?You may be curious why I have combined these two seemingly unrelated questions together.Well,that will bring out my topic today,that is:the power of humanity.
8.0,what a frightening figure,which even surpassed the 1976 Tangshan Earthquake .Everyone is terrified of the destructive power of the Wenchuan earthquake,which claimed over 68000 lives.
But,today,what I want to say is:instead of yielding to the awful power of nature,we human beings have perfectly displayed our strength and power.Rescue personnel have been on their way to the seriously-hit areas immediately after the earthquake.Moreover,rescue teams from Japan,Russian,South Korea and other countries keep providing assistance,without which it would be more difficult for China to cope with all the problems after the disaster.
The power of humanity is also embodied in the various events of the Olympic Games.Ever since the ancient times,sport has been regarded as a major way of showing the power of humanity.For example:basketball demonstrates the power of cooperation,shooting demonstrates the power of calmness,gymnastics demonstrates the power of flexibility and marathon demonstrates the power of perseverance.All the above characters belong to the power of humanity.
When the Olympic torch relay went on in Huainan on May29,one of the torchbearers---a female university student who has been diagnosed with leukemia said that her miraculous survival not only comes from her strong will,but also from the love of the whole society,from the tremendous power of humanity.
Although new problems may crop up,the power of humanity continues and prevails,conquering the problems one after another.Therefore,we have every reason to believe that with the power of humanity,we can on the one hand minimize the negative effects of Wenchuan earthquake and on the other hand host the best ever Olympic Games.
