一个老头和一个孩子,用一头驴驮着东西到集市上去卖.东西卖完了,两人开始往回走.路上,老头把孩子放在驴背上,自己牵着驴,.这时候,路上有人便责备起孩子：这孩子真不懂事,年纪轻轻的怎么能让老人在地上走呢?
孩子听了路人的责备,觉得自己不对,就立即从驴背上下来,让老头骑上了驴,小孩就在地上牵着驴走路.这时,又有人责备老头：这老头真不通情达理,一个大人,怎么忍心让一个孩子在地上走路?
老头听了也觉得有理,于是便把小孩也抱到驴背上来,两个人一前一后地骑驴走.不曾想,路上又有人说话了：两个人都坐在驴背上,驴子压坏了怎么办?真是太残酷!
听了这些话,老头觉得再没有别的办法了,于是只好都从驴背上跳下来.路上的人见了,开始笑话他们：真是呆子,放着现成的驴不骑,却在地上受累!
最后,老头感到左右为难,怎么办都不对,便对孩子说：咱们只剩下一个办法了：让我们俩抬着驴子走吧!
