For example,Global Lighting Technologies Inc.says its prototype LED backlight system for 24-inch LCD TVs uses only 15 LEDs to edge-light the LCD panels.This is a great difference from the several hundred LEDs necessary in a traditional LED backlight system.
The technology offers ;ower production costs than the conventional LED-based,direct backlight system.This has the potential to shorten the path towards commercial feasibility.It also promises great improvements in light efficiency,enabling systems that would consume less power than ever before.
