In February 2009,two bronze sculptures looted from the Old Summer Palace during the Second Opium War in 1860 were auctioned by international auction house Christie's.On 25 Feb 2009 the disputed 18th-century fountainheads — heads of a rat and a rabbit — were sold to a Mr.Cai Mingchao(蔡铭超),an adviser to China's National Treasures Fund,which seeks to retrieve looted treasures by foreign invaders during the Qing Dynasty,for 28 million euros as part of an auction of art works owned by the late French designer Yves Saint Laurent.The buyer has then refused to pay the sum bid,claiming that he was bidding on moral and patriotic grounds.China's State Administration of Cultural Heritage had condemned the sale of the two bronzes and said it would affect Christie's interests in the country,ordering tighter inspections of all cultural relics that the auction house seeks to bring in or out of mainland China.China's State Administration of Cultural Heritage had stated that the auction of the bronzes "goes against the spirit of relevant international conventions and the international common understanding that cultural relics should be returned to their country of origin."

Carina Lau to Play Emperor Wu Zetian
Hong Kong actress Carina Lau will star in Hark Tsui's new film "Di Renjie",which will start shooting in Hengdian,a movie and television city in eastern China's Zhejiang Province,next month.
The 43-year-old will perform the role of "Wu Zetian",China's only female emperor who lived in the Tang Dynasty.Veteran actresses Brigitte Lin Ching-hsia and Cherie Chung were also considered for the role.In the end Huayi Brothers,the film's primary investor,chose Carina Lau because they had faith that she could do the job.
This is Carina Lau's first film gig since getting married to famous actor Tony Leung.The report also clears up Lau's pregnancy rumor.
Hong Kong super star Andy Lau will star as Di Renjie,one of the most celebrated officials of Wu Zetian's reign and was portrayed as a talented detective by many novels and screen works.

'Soldiers Sortie' star Wang Baoqiang sports a wealthy,idle young man look in a Shanghai street,on the set of Liu Yunlong's upcoming spy flick,'East Wind,Rain'.Wang wore a woolen trench coat coupled with a fashionable hat and a black scarf for the scene.
Wang Baoqiang,along with the production team,has been in Shanghai shooting the espionage thriller,in which he plays the son of a tycoon,known as 'Xiao Kai',a nick term old Shanghainese use to address idle young men from wealthy families.
Veteran actor Liu Yunlong has previously taken roles as a Chinese James Bond-type in conspiracy TV shows he directed like 'Mist of Blood','Sun at Dusk',and 'Plot Against',a 2005 hit which was based on a same name novel.
Liu himself again directs and takes the lead role in this,his silver screen directorial debut,a suspense story that takes place against the backdrop of old Shanghai during the 1940s when the Pearl Harbor attack occurred and the espionage war between different countries was heating up.
Popular Chinese actress Fan Bingbing,who will play a spy opposite Liu,recently arrived in Shanghai for the shooting.
Unnamed sources say the filmmaker has attempted to invite Wentworth Miller of 'Prison Break' and French actor Jean Reno of 'Leon' to sign up.
