Most animals need a way to hide .Some have to hide from bigger animals.Most have to hide from people.But what is the best way for an animal to hide?Some foxes dig holes.Sea lions can go under the water.Squirrels can hide inside trees.But some animals have an even quicker way to hide.They just stay right where they are.
An animal’s colour can help it hide.Some rabbits have fur that changes colour.In the winter their fur turns white.When snow falls,the rabbits can’t be seen.A white rabbit hides in the best place of all – right inside its own fur.
Fish can change their colour when they need to.They can become green or blue or brown.Then they swim deep under the water.If they don’t move,they can’t be seen.Other fish think they are looking at sand or rocks.
Some bugs are the colour of plants.Try to find the orange ladybug(瓢虫) sitting on an orange flower.Try to find a green grasshopper(蚱蜢) in the green grass.
An animal’s shape can help too.The bittern is a bird.Its body is long and thin.The bittern lives in tall grass.The long ,thin bird looks just like the grass around it.You can look at the grass all day,but you may never see the bird that is hiding there.
