民间传说寒食是为了纪念春秋时的介子推被火焚于绵山，晋文公下令禁火。介子推是山西人，所以冷食习俗在山西首先流行。旧时寒食断火，次日宫中有钻木取新火的仪式，民间也多以柳条互相乞取新火。
