There are nearly one billion people suffered from hunger and malnutrition on the earth, what's more, forty million people die of food shortage every year, most of them are children. However, more than a third of the grain in the world is not provided for people to eat, but used to feed cattle. In the United States, the cattle ate seventy percent of the total grain production. If we give the grain to people instead of feeding cattle, there will be no one who starves.

In the western countries, most livestock are raised in ”factory farms“ which are designed by the idea that is producing the most animals to slaughter by the least cost. The environment of the factory farms is quite in a mess where those animals huddled together, and they are treated as meat machine which will keep working if they have been filled with fodder. Most of us will never have been to there and seen the truth in person. Someone said: "Making a trip to to the slaughterhouse can make you a vegetarian for life." Tolstoy once said: "As long as there are slaughterhouses there will be battlefields. A vegetarian diet is the acid test of humanitarianism." Although most of us will not take the initiative to kill, but we have formed the habit of eating meat constantly through the social identity, and not really understand what we have done to the animals we ate.
