GENERAL INFORMATION FOR ADMITTED CHINESE STUDENTS
Visa Application Please contact your nearest Finnish Embassy to apply for a student visa as soon as you have received your official admission letter. We will also send a list of admitted students to your local Finnish Embassy for verification.
Accommodation All admitted students must apply for the student accommodation themselves. There is no accommodation available at the campus or through Kymenlaakso University of Applied Sciences.
Housing agency, which owns the student flats in Kouvola, is Kiinteistö Oy Kouvolan Vuokratalot. You should contact this agency as soon as possible by sending them your application via e-mail or fax
Arriving in Finland Spring Term 2009 begins on 5 January 2009 with welcoming speeches, but the official orientation for the International Business group starts on Wednesday 7 January 2009. It is highly recommended for all students to be present on this date.
Please note that there is no teaching during the Christmas holiday, 19 December 2008 – 4 January 2009. Therefore the tutor students are not available to meet you and take you to your apartment during this time. We recommend our foreign students to book their travel to Finland Monday 5 January - Tuesday 6 January 2009.
6 January 2009 is a public holiday in Finland, but the buses and trains run according to Sunday schedule.
Please inform us about your arrival date and time to Student Affairs Officer Ms Karoliina Daelemans as soon as you have booked your travel.
Arriving in Kouvola There is a bus connection between Helsinki-Vantaa airport and Helsinki center / railway station. You can take a train from Helsinki to Kouvola, the journey takes about 1,5 hours. The train ticket from Helsinki to Kouvola costs about 28 € (245 CNY).
There is also a direct bus connection from Helsinki-Vantaa airport to Kouvola. The airport information point at the arrivals hall has more information on timetables.
Please contact a tutor student as soon as you know your estimated arrival time to Kouvola. You will receive the contact information via e-mail as soon as you have informed us about your arrival time.
Costs of living Monthly rent of a room in a student flat (shared bathroom and kitchen) is 140,60 € - 193,61 € (approx.1.200 – 1650 CNY) per month per person and the deposit is 150 € (1.300 CNY) per person.
A monthly cost of food is around 200 € (1.700 BDT) per month per person. Lunch at the Business Campus canteen costs around 2,45 € (21 CNY) for our students.
You may need to purchase books or other study materials for some of the courses yourself, but there is also an extensive library system at the University of Applied Sciences, that our students can use free of charge.
Part time jobs are very hard to find for foreigners, who don’t speak Finnish. Please do not count on finding a part time job for financing your living expenses.
