(30)This report is a preliminary assessment of the mining potential of the Mokau Coalfield which has been carried out along with an assessment of the environment factors which might affect mine development and operation.The report includes a geological description of the area,concentrating on the coal deposits of the area.From this a resource estimate has been calculated.There is also an analysis of the geological and geotechnical conditions that would affect mining of coal in the studies area.This lead to the analysis of various mining techniques that could be used.

（32）Large numbers of chemical and physical analyses carried out on Mokau coal as part of the recently completed NZ Government prospecting programme have been treated statistically to define mean properties in-ground for each seam of each sector and ,to show geographically trends within and between seams.Properties studies include bed moisture,air dried moisture,specific energy,volatile matter,sulphur,forms of sulphur,coal composition,mineral composition,ultimate analysis,ash constituents,trace elements,ash distribution,boiler foiling properties,ash fusibility,Hardgrove Grindability Index and relative density.Geographically tends for the five seams are given for sulphur,ASTM rank ,volatile matter（dry mineral water and sulphur free）and sodium.
