A young man blamed a kid for eating on the subway in Hong Kong.The kid‟s mother got angry about the young man‟s attitude (态度) and they started to argue with each other.
This happened last year and has caused a huge argument on the Internet.Some people think the behavior of the kid,a Chinese tourist,was bad because eating is not allowed on the Hong Kong subway.Others say that,because there‟s no such rule in many other cities,it‟s reasonable that the tourists didn‟t know about it.
James Tien,chairman of the Hong Kong Tourism Board,asked both sides to calm down.“Both parties should learn to see things from the other side,” he said.“Hong Kong citizens should be more polite and explain local rules to tourists.” He also thinks that travelers should improve their manners.“When in Rome,do as the Romans do.Social customs are different in different countries and cities.Travelers should obey the local rules.”
With the improvement of living standards,more and more Chinese are traveling abroad.But there are still a number of Chinese lacking in (缺乏) a sense of public manners.
Developing civilized (文明的) behavior among Chinese travelers is becoming important in China.The National Tourism Administration has listed tourists‟ worst behaviors,including littering,spitting (吐痰),snatching (抢夺) bus seats,line-jumping,taking off shoes and socks in public,speaking loudly and smoking in non-smoking areas.
“We are going to improve the inner being (内在) of every Chinese citizen.Travel issues are a turning point,” said an official from the Central Spiritual Civilization Office.
