Whether it is traditional form or modern form,Western-style garments mainly emphasize modeling of the figure.As a result ,garments are close-fitting,and expose different parts of the body,such as chest,shoulders,arms,back,hips and especially the lower limbs.Its overall shape has been multi-form and changes rather unpuedictable,while Chinese apparel has historically been characterized by a closed and covered style.This form of apparel only took the human body as a skeleton on which the clothes itself stretched beyond the body shape to be excessively noticeable.Therefore,the appearance of curved Qipao greatly shocked the Western world.During the Qing Dynasty,the triangular-shape and rectangrlar-shape Qipao only changed a little around the collar:some having a collar while others having none,and some high collars while others low.Variations of the modern style Qipao in the 20th century have been no longer limited only to collar shapes .Many new designs have emphasized the shape of sleeves,waistline and the lower part of the body,even the position of hips,as well as pockets.All of these have rejuvenated the Qipao's vitality.
2.Color features.Color is always the first visual impression of garments,and is even more important as a design factor.
(1) Qipao's colors during the dynastic times had characteristics inherited from history and were restricted by imperial rules.A pyramid system developed due to strict conformity to social class restrictions.The emperor monopolized yellow; officials used red,green and reddish brown; while civilians,merchants,menial workers,and serfs were mainly resticted to the use of blue,white,gray and black.
