其实这两句话实际上说的就是 if possible:
I'll help you as possible as I can. I'll do my best to help you.
We’ll help you as possible as it can be.
于是as far as 就是一个连接词而已.

这个短语在美国韦氏词典里很明确的被解释为 [go away] and [leave]
