一天,女儿满腹牢骚的向父亲抱怨起生活的艰难.
父亲是一位著名的厨师.他平静地听完女儿的抱怨后,微微一笑,把女儿带进了厨房.父亲往三只同样大小的锅里倒进了一样多的水,然后进一根大大的胡萝卜放进了第一只锅里,将一个鸡蛋放进了第二只锅里.又将一把咖啡豆放进了第三只锅里.最后他把三只锅放到火力一样大小的三个炉子上烧.
女儿站在一边,疑惑的望着父亲,弄不清他的用意.
父亲关掉了火,让女儿拿来两个盘子和一个杯子.父亲将煮好的胡萝卜和鸡蛋分别放进了两个盘子里,然后将咖啡豆煮出的咖啡倒进了杯子.他指着盘子和杯子问女儿：“孩子,说说看,你见到了什么?”
女儿回答说：“还有什么,当然是胡萝卜,鸡蛋和咖啡了.”
父亲说：“你不妨碰碰它们,看看有什么变化.”

现在,女儿更是有些摸不着头脑了,只是怔怔地看着父亲,不知如何回答.父亲接着说：“我想问你的是,面对生活的煎熬,你是像胡萝卜那样变得软弱无力还想鸡蛋那样变硬变强,抑或像一把咖啡豆,身受损而不堕其志,无论环境多么的恶劣,都向四周散发出香气、用美好的感情感染周围所有的人,简而言之,你应该成为生活道路上的强者,让你自己和周围的一切变得更好,更漂亮、更有意义.”
