全文的时态是一般过去时.请问为什么要填drawing 不填drew而后面的时态是placed .第二句是As开头不是应该进行时该填gushing?

这是海伦凯勒的文章,原文是Someone was drawing water and my teacher placed my hand under the spout.As the cool stream gushed over one hand she spelled into the other the word "water",first slowly,then rapidly.应该是was drawing,过去进行时,有人正在打水的意思,后面的placed就是一般过去时,as是随着的意思,后面接一般过去时态没有问题的
再问： 为什么用placed不用placing呢 也是过去正在做的事 。还是was drawing和placed之间的时间有前后顺序？
再答： was drawing的动作是在老师把我手放水里之前就有的，现在还有，是一个持续的动作，而老师把我手放水里是短暂的动作，所以不需要用进行时态
