Theme:Vehicles
Time:30 minutes
Group size:Whole class
Subject areas to be integrated:Language,Mathematics,and Music
Language skills to be integrated:Speaking,Listening
Objectives of the activity:
1.Learn the words (pronunciations):Bus,Taxi,Bike,Train...
2.Try to express themselves and share their past experience in English.
3.Notice that different vehicles can take different number of passengers,e.g.taxi:4-5,
Bus:more than 30...etc.
Materials prepared:
1.Picture of the Vehicles – with 6 covers
2.Color pens,paper
Procedures:
(A) Show the picture and introduce the vehicles.
1.Invite a child to take away one card,ask the children to guess what the picture is.
2.Repeat step 3 until the children know what the picture is.
3.Teacher asks children:“What is it?”
4.(Help the children to answer):“This is a bus.”
5.Sing the song:Drive,drive,drive a bus.(歌曲的部份你可以找小朋友已经熟悉会唱的更好)
6.Teacher asks the children:“Who like bus?Please put up your hands.”
7.Ask a child to explain why he/she likes bus.(Help the children to start with “because”)
8.Repeat steps 5-9 by substituting taxi,bicycle (ride),motorbike (ride).
(B) Doing the statistics
1.Invite children to stand in rows,classified by different kinds of vehicles they like.
2.Count the number of children together.
3.Compare the number of children in different groups
(C) Introducing different number of passengers vehicles can carry
1.Invite a child to be a bus driver.
2.Ask children,“How many people can a bus carry?
3.Help children to answer,e.g.30/many
4.Invite the whole class to follow the bus driver,pretend to be a bus with song singing.
5.Repeat the above steps by substituting taxi,bicycles,and motorbike.
(D) Follow up activity:Conclusion
1.Invite children to draw pictures:“I go to school by___.”
2.Teacher discusses the picture with individual children.Help the children to say the sentence.“ I go to school by_____.”
