It is very important for English learners to develop their English cultural awareness.The College English Curriculum Requirements(published in 2003) indicates that it is important for student to know about western social culture,such as customs,science and technology,religions,and improve their humanistic concern and cultural identity.This requirement was fully shown in the university textbooks.A large mount of cultural background knowledge about Christian and idioms about the Holy Bible appears in textbooks in different ways,for example,reading,listening,speaking and so on.In addition,Christian culture has appeared in the CET 4 and CET 6 exams before.
Therefore,it is necessary for students to learn some knowledge about Christian during the English’s learning process.Based on these,this article discusses the effects of the Bible and Bible culture on English language .and puts forward the importance of introducing biblical cultural knowledge and learning approaches and methods in English learning.
