（1）I tried the dress on but it didn't fit well.
（2）The key doesn't fit the lock.
2、suit especially of clothes,colours,etc to make you look attractive 特别是服装、颜色等相配、合身
i don't think that coat really suits you.
所以,前者,侧重于形状和尺寸,物理上的合适；后者,是感觉上的合适.
您自己体会一下英文的原意.

再答： 不必客气，个人认为，用 fit 比较合适。但是如果是风格的话，就要用 suit 了。
再问： 碰到一道题目 ：fit/suit the American values of equality and independence. 你认为应该是哪一个呢？万分感谢！
再答： 我个人认为是fit，因为 fit 还有 agree/match 的意思，使与...一致，和...相称，符合 所以，如果是一种价值观的话，用 fit。
