我记得 way 做先行词的定语从句,不用 how 引导.有3种表达.
例如：
1.That's the way they work.
2.That's the way that they work.
3.That's the way in which they work.
以上如何理解?谢谢!

这四种结构都正确.
一、the way本身是名词,表示“这种方式/方法”或“这种样子”.如果后跟修饰它的定语从句,可以用两种办法表示：
1）用关系副词 how 指代in the way,即：
——That's the way how I learn English.(how I learn English = I learn English in the way)
2) 用“in which”,关系代词指代the way,也就是把第一种中的how指代的 in the way 改为in which,即：
——That's the way in which they work.（= That's the way how they work）
二、way是抽象名词,有时需要作进一步的说明才能表达出它的具体含义,因此,后面往往要跟一个that引导的同位语从句,即：
——That's the way that they work.(that 是引导名词从句的连接词)
三、表示方式/时间/原因的名词后引导同位语从句的连接词常可以省略,于是就出现了如下的句子：
——That's the way they work.
另如——
This is the day he is on duty.
The reason he didn’t come was not known.
这两个句子也可以分别改写为——
This is the day that he is on duty.（同位语从句）
This is the day when he is on duty.（关系副词引导的定语从句）
This is the day on which he is on duty.（介词+which引导的定语从句）
The reason that he didn’t come was not known.（同位语从句）
The reason why he didn’t come was not known.（关系副词引导的定语从句）
The reason for which he didn’t come was not known.（介词+which引导的定语从句）
