二、奥运主题作文
New Beijing, Great Olympics
The 2008 Olympic Game has been the most cheerful and anticipated event throughout Beijing ever since Beijing was rewarded
the right to host the 2008 Summer Olympic Games, yet the focus should be shifted from making a promise to fulfilling the promise made.
In my point of view, to bridge the gap between the promise and reality, Beijing still has a long way to go. To begin
with, infrastructure construction should be the primary concern. Such infrastructures as communications and transportation
system and facilities ought to draw our constant attention. First, traffic jam has been an age old headache in Beijing. The
scene of long queues of vehicles worming their way inch by inch will surely cause great incontinence, and blemish the image
of the city meanwhile. Next, to add enchantment to convenience, overall city planning is indispensable. Time permitting, a
redesign of city layout and adjustment of architectural style would provide a better environment for fostering the
characteristic, blending, oriental elegance with international grandeur, will tower aloft among surrounding architectures. To
achieve such effect, Beijing shall solicit opinions from first rate architects and make an overall plan. Thirdly, quality of
the population should be improved. To make an international metropolis, both “hardware” and “software” are important.
However, Rome was not built in a day. To carry out the promise of “New Beijing, Great Olympics”, deeds speak louder than words.
奥运主题作文二
Will city benifit from hosting the olympic games absolutly?
Bidding for and hosting the Olympics successfully is, perhaps, the ultimate glory for a city. However, before transforming the dream into reality, the benefits and drawbacks of bidding for the Olympics should be weighed carefully.
Hosting the Olympics surely would bring about much gain to a city. Boom of the local economy, more jobs, and the possibility of generating income all sound extremely attractive to the municipal government. At the same time, better infrastructure, cleaner environment, enjoying the spectacular game with hundreds of sports elites and entertainment stars, and the opportunity of contacting people from all over the world also seem exciting to the citizens. Besides, the bidding will definitely promote the patriotic emotion and pride, as well as the moral behavior in local people. In most cases, bidding for the Olympics is well supported by both the public and the central government.
Unfortunately, this is not the entire view of the pretty picture. If looking from another angle, the Olympic bid might bring about some side-effects to a city.
To bid or not to, this is a question. It is up to the choice of the municipal government, and the local public. After the decision, what they can do is to make the most of the benefit, and reduce the drawbacks to the least.
First of all, the environmental impacts, including the increasing exhaust fumes of cars, more pressure on water resources, huge amount of wasted leaflets and other materials used for public activities, are most probably neglected. In order to broaden the streets, some trees may have to be cut. Near the construction site, the tiny dust may linger in the air for a long time. Reduction of farmland may be caused by the need of setting up new sports centre or accommodation facilities. These environmental consequences can be especially serious in a resource-limited and densely-populated city in a third-world country.
5、奥运主题作文三
The Beijing Organizing Committee for the Games of the XXIX Olympiad (BOCOG) has recently received the ISO14001 certificate, meaning that the environmental management system (EMS) set up by the BOCOG conforms to the ISO14001:1966 standards and requirements.
The certificate issued by China's national environmental authentication center on October 13 covers areas including BOCOG's office work, the event route planning, venue planning, partners selecting, contracted hotels selecting, communication and environmental management.
The BOCOG started establishing the EMS following BOCOG president Liu Qi's approval in April 2004. After experts' examination and appraisal of a trial practice of several months, the BOCOG passed the certification in September this year.
The system will be implemented from now on to ensure BOCOG's scientific management of the Olympiad's preparation and hosting.
As a theme of Beijing 2008 Olympic Games, Green Olympics means to prepare it in accordance with the principle of sustainable development, which calls for the protection of environment, conservation of resources and maintenance of ecological balance.
The city's environmental infrastructure will be enhanced and its ecological surrounding improved. Beijing will widely organize environmental communication and education activities to raise public awareness and leave rich environmental legacy to China and world sports.
BOCOG has compiled an EMS manual, assigned environmental management representatives, clarified responsibilities for BOCOG's different departments, held training courses, and confirmed some key environmental elements for all departments.
6、奥运主题作文四
"The Games of the 29th Olympiad in 2008 are awarded to the city of Beijing."
The International Olympic Committee selected the Chinese capital as the 2008 host in Friday's vote during Juan Antonio Samaranch's last IOC session as president. The attraction of staging the Games in a country which has the world's largest population, as well as huge economic potential, won the IOC's heart.
Beijing defeated four other bidding cities, including Toronto and Paris, to secure the country's first-ever Olympics. Osaka was the first city to go out, and it only took one more round for Beijing to win the Olympic race.
The announcement, read out by the 81-year-old Samaranch, was answered with wild jubilation from the Chinese delegation in Moscow, and with fireworks in Beijing.IOC senior member Kim Un-Yong said after the voting that Beijing deserved the Olympic Games.
"Beijing is capable of staging a great Olympic Games," said the 71-year-old South Korean. "The result wasn't a surprise to me."
With the motto "New Beijing, Great Olympics", Beijing promises to host a "Green Olympics", a "Hi-tech Olympics" and the "People's Olympics".
The 3,000-year-old city is becoming a truly international city and showing a new, vigorous image through its ongoing economic reforms.
Beijing enjoys the widest popular support among the five bidding cities. A Gallup opinion poll commissioned by the government showed 94.9 percent of the public in favor of it. The IOC's own surveys found support even higher. The Chinese government has pledged to spend 20 billion U.S. dollars building sports complexes and refurbishing the Beijing infrastructure. There are plans for a new exhibition center with twin skyscrapers that could be taller than any in the world.

新闻背景:为救这为老人,数十名解放军战士已经在废墟上奋战了五个半小时,一些战士因地震余震背掉下来的石块砸伤并流着血.
你的感想:看到这段电视报道感动的流着泪.……(以下可以自由发挥)

2. 词数:150;
3. 相关词语:碎石:rubble;震中:epicenter;解放军战士:People’s Liberation Army soldier;嘶哑:hoarse;余震:aftershocks.
One possible version:
My eyes blurred with tears when I saw on TV the survival of a 65-year-old man after 70 hours in the rubble of his home in Dujiangyan City near the epicenter. A People's Liberation Army soldier carried him all the way to the nearest ambulance, followed by his daughter who cried out hoarse thanks to everyone.
No one cares about the man's name, or whether he is a peasant or a professor. All we care about is that he's back in the land of the living.
The man himself might not know how dozens of PLA soldiers worked for five and a half hours in the ruins — some were bleeding themselves after they were injured by falling stones, triggered by aftershocks. But their pains paid off when the man was saved.
The earthquake crushed our buildings, but it could never crush our will. Instead, it made all our hearts linked together. I hold a strong belief that we Chinese people can conquer whatever difficulty we are facing.
