This year is the first time ever that we agreed,as a family,to eat
Christmas lunch in a local restaurant.It was very relaxing not having
to
cook the Christmas lunch at home for a large family.Neil,our son,and
his
wife and 2 daughters,Anna and Evelyn after opening their presents in
their
home,travelled a 3 hour journey up north to join us.Ofcourse my
85yearold
mother was also part of the celebration!Yes the meal was flavoursome
and
substantial.It was a good occasion and the only "but" was the
extortionate
cost.Yes I know that the restaurant employees were working on
Christmas day
and therefore needed the compensation of a large paypacket but it still
hurt
to pay the asking price!To put you in the picture--each adult meal
cost
50pounds.My mother thought it was immoral and felt that her money
should
have gone to a developing country instead.We do seem to be in a
topsy-turvy
world.Christmas in the West focuses on consumerism with major concern
for
people to spend,spend ,spend and make the business-men richer.There
is
pressure from the media encouraging the spend mentality.It is
estimated
that 30thousand people ,after the Christmas spending spree,will have
to
resort to insolvency.We seem to spend money that we don`t have!
We enjoyed the opportuniy for the family to get together.After the
constant
eating and drinking Mike and i ,together with my mother,went on a
walk to
see the local seal colony on a beach some 30 minutes away.It was a
delight
to witness the birth of young seals in their natural habitat.We also
had
the opportunity of watching the Queen deliver her Christmas message to
all
her citizens via the TV.Her message focused on youth and age and how
the 2
should interact and support each other.Our thoughts were yet again in
China
where our experience was indeed one of close connections where ageism
didn`t
exist.
