The path to Paris was not easy.I chose to begin it in Melun,only a few miles from the French capital.I selected a small movie theater,located the startled manager and offered to sing for a sum so low he thought I was joking.When I convinced him that he was helping me toward my comeback,he agreed,and I began a pattern that was to take me to city after city for many weeks.Each performance was an agonizing strain.
