Yesterday was an interesting day.I spent most of the time talking to bankruptcy lawyers and tax accountants. My building has 25 units in it.18 of them are owned by one guy.He made a lot of money, like $2.5mm,2 - 4 years ago. But,he invested it all in our building buying units. He bought at the very peak of our market and paid 10 times what I paid.Since our market has crashed. He owes much more on his units than they are worth right now. And,he didn't pay his taxes for all of those years.
So,he is in very bad financial condition right now.We spent all day yesterday and some of today, trying to figure out a way to get him out of trouble.I think we have found that, but now I have to find an investor to see if they will buy some of his units. His losses will eliminate a lot of his tax trouble.Otherwise,he will just have to file banruptcy,so not a good picture for him.I've been telling him this for months, but he has had much trouble coming to terms with it.It looks like he has now seen the light.I just hope it is not too late to do something.
